Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling

The College of Arts and Sciences offers a Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Counseling within the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences.  The Marriage and Family  Counseling major is designed to prepare graduates to serve in many professional counseling positions including mental health agencies, churches, and private practice.  Graduates of the program complete courses that meet the educational requirements in the state of Alabama for both Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists.  The program is unique in that students can attain educational preparation for both of these licenses.

Marriage and Family Counseling faculty members are committed to facilitating the integration of Christian worldview principles into the student’s philosophy and practice of counseling.  Our full-time faculty members are seminary trained and have experience as counselors in both secular and church settings.

A central focus of the Marriage and Family Counseling curriculum is the development of the counselor as a person and a professional.  Students are provided opportunities through classroom interaction and clinical experiences that encourage an attitude of lifelong personal growth and development.
