MOBILE, Ala—The 9^th-ranked Vanguard University Lions blanked the University of Mobile men’s tennis team 9-0 on day one of the 2011 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship at the Mobile Tennis Center. Vanguard (8-13) advances to round two Wednesday at 9 am, while Mobile sees its season end with a 6-8 mark. The tournament will conclude with the NAIA National Championship match May 21.

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile women’s golf program announced the addition of Alma Bryant High School star Devin Pigford for the 2011-12 season. Pigford finished 3^rd with an 80 at the 2011 girls Class 6A Section 1 golf tournament and led Alma Bryant to a 2^nd place finish. Alma Bryant finished 4^th at the 2011 AHSAA Golf Championship, with Pigford placing 9^th individually with a 159 (85, 74).

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile women’s tennis team will battle Southern States Athletic Conference foe and 12^th-ranked William Carey University in the opening round of the 2011 NAIA Women’s Tennis National Championship May 17 at 1 pm at the Mobile Tennis Center. The Lady Rams are 7-8 on the season and received the host bid to the tournament, while William Carey boasts a 14-6 record and received one of the 9 at-large selections to the 24-team, single-elimination tournament. Mobile is making its 7^th-straight trip to the elite field and 18^th trip overall, while William Carey is making its first-ever appearance at nationals.

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile men’s tennis team will open play at the 2011 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship Tuesday, May 17 at 9 am against 9^th-ranked Vanguard University. Mobile (6-7) is making its 12th trip to postseason play and 4^th-straight since the program was reinstated in 2008. The Rams will look to snap a string of 3-straight first-round losses, including back-to-back defeats at the hands of Point Loma Nazarene. PLNU is in the same conference as Vanguard, the Golden States Athletic Conference. Mobile earned the host bid to the tournament.

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile baseball program announced the signing of four Alabama Southern Community College products; Ryan Hines, Parker Hollinghead, Ryan Parazine and John Soutullo. Hines is a 6-2, 215-pound left-handed pitcher played his prep ball at Daphne HS and has spend the last two seasons at Alabama Southern. In his latest start, the lefty struck out 13 hitters in 7.2 innings at the ACCC Baseball Tournament and he sits at 8-2 on the season with a 2.44 ERA and 77 K’s in 77.1 innings of work.

KANSAS CITY, Mo—The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the pool play schedule for the 2011 NAIA Softball National Championship Wednesday. The tournament will take place May 19-25 at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex in Gulf Shores, Ala., and will be hosted by the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Sports Commission in conjunction with the University of Mobile.

The championship will take place May 19-25 at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex and the pool play schedule will be released Wednesday by 3 pm. The field is comprised of 27 automatic qualifiers, the host bid and four at-large selections.

KANSAS CITY, Mo—The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics released the 24 qualifiers for the 2011 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship, and the University of Mobile received the host berth to the tournament. The tournament will take place May 17-21 at the Mobile Tennis Center. The Rams are making their 4^th-straight trip to nationals and their 12^th appearance overall. Mobile’s men’s program won the National Championship in 1993 and 1997.
