Rams Ink Baker Standout Brandon Grant

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team has inked Baker High School standout Brandon Grant for 2012-13. "Brandon is an outstanding shooter that plays with a lot of energy," UMobile Head Coach Joe Niland said. "We feel that once he adjusts to the college game he can be a real asset to our program." The 6-3 wing was a three-year letter-winner at Baker, where he helped lead the school to a 78-20 record in that time.

Men's Basketball Nets Two Transfers For 2012-13

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team has announced the signing of a pair of transfer guards for 2012-13. Chris Richardson is transferring from NCAA Div-I UT Martin and Kwame Beard is coming to UMobile after playing the last two years at Alabama junior college perennial power Shelton State Community. Richardson, a 6-0 point guard who prepped at Minor High School, played in 61 games the last two seasons at UT Martin. He had game-highs of 8 points and 5 assists.

UMobile Hires Billy Evans As Head Women's Basketball Coach

MOBILE, Ala- The University of Mobile has announced the hiring of Billy Evans as the school's new head women's basketball coach. He brings 11 seasons of coaching experience at Southern States Athletic Conference rival Belhaven University. "We are excited to bring Billy on board here at UM," Athletic Director Joe Niland said. "His enthusiasm and dedication to the game has been evident in what he has been able to do at Belhaven.  We know with the resources he has to work with here at UM, that he can continue the success he had at Belhaven."

Trio of Lady Rams Named Scholar Athletes

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile had three student-athletics named 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Tuesday. Kamaron Strickland, Korie Fontenot and Jessica Palmer were honored for the Lady Rams. Strickland is a senior pitcher from Enterprise, Ala., Fontenot is a junior outfielder from Grand Bay, Ala., and Palmer is a junior first baseman from Mobile, Ala.

Lady Rams End Season With Pool Play Victory

GULF SHORES, Ala-- The University of Mobile softball team rolled past Texas Wesleyan 9-2 on the final day of pool play action Saturday at the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship, but the win is not enough to extend the Lady Rams' season. Mobile ends the year with a 31-19 overall record, while the winner of Southern Nazarene and Cal State San Marcos will be Pool B's representative in double-elimination bracket play May 21-23. Kamaron Strickland got the win for Mobile, working 4 innings of one-run, three-hit ball, while Alli Hall worked 3 innings of one-run relief to pick up the save.

Lady Rams Fall To #2 Cougars At Nationals

GULF SHORES, Ala-- The University of Mobile led early against 2nd-ranked Cal State San Marcos on day two of pool play at the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship, but fell 5-7 in eight innings. Mobile (30-19) will face Texas Wesleyan Saturday at 12:30 p.m. to wrap up pool play. Cortney Allen got the win for the Cougars with 6 innings of three-hit relief. She allowed three unearned runs and fanned four. Alli Hall took the loss after giving up two runs on six hits in 4 innings of relief work.

Lady Rams Drop Pool Play Opener

GULF SHORES, Ala-- Six errors proved to be too much for the University of Mobile softball team to overcome on day one of pool play action at the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship, as the Lady Rams fell 6-1 to Southern Nazarene University. Mobile (30-18) will face 2nd-ranked Cal State San Marcos Friday at 10 am. Pool play extends through Saturday and the top team from each of the eight pools advances to a double-elimination bracket Monday-Wednesday.

Rams Fall To #9 Point Loma At National Championship

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's tennis team fell 1-8 to 9th-ranked Point Loma Nazarene University Tuesday on day one of the 2012 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship. Mobile ends the season with a 7-6 overall record. This was Mobile's 5th-straight trip to the tournament. Point Loma advances to face Xavier University Wednesday at 1 pm. Point Loma's No. 1 doubles duo of Tyler Bowman and Gregory de Andrade picked up an 8-2 win, and then each team picked up a comeback victory in the final two matches. Point Loma rallied from down 5-6 to take the 3rd doubles slot 8-6 and Mobile's No. 2 duo of Lucas Tristao and Guilherme Arcaro rallied from down 7-6 to win 9-8 (5).

Michael Azira Signs Pro Contract

MOBILE, Ala-- Former University of Mobile men's soccer player Michael Azira has inked a pro contract with the Charleston Battery of the USL Pro. "In thirty years of coaching, Michael Azira is undoubtedly one of the top 10 players I have ever had the opportunity to coach in the college ranks," UMobile Head Coach Roy Patton said. "If he stays healthy and spends some time at the next level, I fully expect to see him on TV and in the MLS." The USL Pro is comprised of eleven teams and the season is already underway and runs through August.

Matchups Released For 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship

GULF SHORES, Ala-- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the pool play schedule for the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship, held May 17-23 at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. The University of Mobile is in Pool B with Cal State San Marcos, Southern Nazarene and Texas Wesleyan. There are eight pools of four teams apiece, who will play three games from May 17-19. The winner of each pool will advance to a double-elimination bracket May 21-23. The Lady Rams will play Southern Nazarene May 17 at 9:30 am, Cal State San Marcos May 18 at 10 am and Texas Wesleyan May 19 at 12:30 pm.
