UM Volleyball Wins First Match

MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile volleyball team won their first ever match 3-2 (24-30, 25-30, 30-22, 30-13, 15-6) over Judson College to improve to 1-0 on the season Thursday night in Marion, Alabama.

After falling behind 2-0, the Rams finally got things going as they stormed back to win the third game, 30-22.

“The girls started off pretty slow but I think they were a little nervous and had some early jitters,” UM volleyball coach Jon Campbell said after the win. “However, once things began to click, the girls really started to play well. Their serving was excellent and we began to dominate the match.”

After taking the third game to pull within 2-1, the Rams put forth their most dominating game of the match by taking the fourth game, 30-13 and tying the match at 2-2. Finally, the Rams took the fifth and deciding game, 15-6 to lay claim to the program’s first ever victory.

Offensively, Amanda Howard led the Rams with 17 kills, while Jill Campbell led the team in assists with 33. Kelly Ladnier added five aces to pace the Rams’ attack.

Defensively, Ladnier had a game-high 18 digs and Holly Almony came through with 13 blocks.

Mobile will next be in action on Friday, Sept. 16 when the team heads to Jackson, Miss., to battle Belhaven College in the team’s first ever Gulf Coast Athletic Conference match.
