MOBILE, Ala-- The 3rd-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team upended Shorter University 1-0 in the opening round of the 2011 SSAC Tournament Saturday.
Mobile (16-2-1, 11-1) will advance to the semifinals of the tournament Nov. 10 in Gulfport, Miss., against a team to be determined.
The Lady Rams' defense allowed Shorter to put only two shots on target, and Lorna Brownlie made saves on both of those to pick up the shutout victory.
Mobile, meanwhile, put seven of 14 shots on frame, though only one found the back of the net.
That shot came in the 38th minute, when Christy Lachappelle outran the defense into the 18-yard box, worked around two defenders toward the middle, found room and ripped the ball into the net.
