GULFPORT, Miss-- The 3rd-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team fell 0-2 to 2nd-ranked Lee University in the finals of the 2011 SSAC Tournament Saturday at the Gulfport Sportsplex.
Mobile (17-3-1, 11-1) will receive a bid to the 2011 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship, and will await word on a site and opponent for the National Championship Opening Round to take place Nov. 19.
The Lady Flames limited Mobile to four shots all game, and Lee goalkeeper Leah Wilson finished with a two-save shutout. Lee's offense took 14 shots in the contest and put five on goal.
Two of those found the back of the net, with one goal coming in each period of play.
Laura Thacker tallied the eventual game-winner in the 24th minute when she slid in the 18-yard box and knocked home a loose ball inside the far post.
Lee kept the pressure on and scored in the 62nd minute when Kathryn Healy headed home a cross from Leah Fortune.
