MARIETTA, Ga-- Courntey Bayliss' last-second 3-pointer gave the University of Mobile women's basketball team a 62-61 victory over Southern Poly Friday evening in SSAC action.
Morgan Melancon led Mobile with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting overall and 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range, Alice Honnery added 14 points and 14 rebounds and Briana Edwards finished with 10 points and 8 boards.
Bayliss finished with 8 points and 4 rebounds.
Tara Hay led four Lady Hornets in double figures with 16 points, while Chase Morgan hauled in 16 rebounds.
Mobile (2-2, 1-0) will visit Brewton-Parker Saturday at 3 pm.
The Lady Rams led for all but 55 seconds of the opening half, and led by as many as eight points before taking a 33-30 lead into the break.
Then, in the final period of play, Mobile scored the first nine points to take a 42-30 lead with 17:18 remaining on a deuce from Honnery. At the 13:51 mark, Honnery got a putback to give the Lady Rams a comfortable 50-32 lead with 13:51 left, but Southern Poly went on a run. The Lady Hornets went on a 26-6 over the next 10:49 to take a 58-56 lead, capped by free throws from Raquel Jones and Morgan.
Bayliss answered the bell at the 1:24 mark with a 3-ball to retake the lead for Mobile, and then after Morgan went 1-for-2 at the line with four seconds left, Bayliss drained another 3-pointer with no time left to win the game.
