UM Upsets 8th-Ranked Martin Methodist

MOBILE, Ala-- The 18th-ranked University of Mobile softball team upended 8th-ranked Martin Methodist College 3-2 in 8 innings to close out the University of Mobile Classic Sunday evening.

Kamaron Strickland picked up the complete-game win for Mobile after allowing only 1 earned run on 5 hits in 8 innings of work, while fanning 6 and walking 1. She ran into trouble in the first two innings, allowing one run in each and four hits total, but she limited Martin Methodist to only one hit over the final six frames.
With the score tied 2-2 after 7 innings, the teams went into the 8th, using the international tie breaker, where each team starts the inning with a runner on 2nd base.

Martin Methodist came up empty in the top half of the frame, but the Lady Rams came through. Dorlicia Martin started on 2nd for Mobile and was bunted over by Jessica Swanson to set the stage for Ally Scott. Down in the count 1-2, Scott delivered a high fly to deep center for the game-winning sac fly.

Scott finished 1-3 with 1 RBI, Nicole Walker was 1-3 with a solo homerun and Desiree Truett added a pair of hits for Mobile.

After the visitors took a 2-0 lead in 1.5 innings, Walker's blast in the bottom of the 2nd cut the deficit in half and brought the Lady Rams to within one run. Mobile tied it in the 5th on Erica Bracey's RBI-single to plate Holli McLeod, but Truett was thrown out at the plate to keep Mobile from grabbing the lead.

The Lady Rams returned the favor in the top of the 8th, when Martin Methodist's Misti Alston was tagged out by Walker after trying to score on a wild pitch that bounced off the brick backstop, right to Walker behind the plate.
