Lady Rams Fall On Last-Second Bucket

NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team dropped a 61-62 game to Rust College Friday at the Xavier Classic.

Mobile (2-5) will visit Southeastern Louisiana Saturday at 3 pm in an exhibition contest.

Alice Honnery led Mobile with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 blocks, while Allison Michael finished with 12 points for the Lady Rams. Judi Vigneulle added 5 points and 7 rebounds.

Al'Lisha Hudson led Rust with 20 points and 10 boards.

Rust out-rebounded Mobile 56-36 and held a 39% to 37% edge in shooting percentage. Mobile hit only 2-of-16 from 3-point range, while Rust hit 5-of-14 for 36%. The Lady Rams turned the ball over only 12 times, compared to 27 for the winning team.

Mobile built a 30-25 lead after the opening 20 minutes of play, and never trailed in the second half until Rust went ahead 40-38 with 12:06 remaining.

The Lady Rams then appeared to be in the driver's seat after a 12-2 run gave them a 59-50 lead with 3:34 left after Michael scored 10 straight points for the team to cap the run. But, the only points that Mobile scored over the final 3:34 was a pair of free throws from Michael at the 26 second mark to give the team a 61-58 lead. Hudson answered 10 seconds later with a bucket, and then Mobile went 0-for-3 from the charity stripe the rest of the way to allow Marian Lee to hit the game-winning bucket with two-tenths of a second remaining.
