DECATUR, Ala-- The 2nd-seeded Azusa Pacific University Lady Cougars ousted the 7th-seeded University of Mobile Lady Rams by a 4-0 score in the quarterfinals of the 2011 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championships Wednesday afternoon.
Mobile (19-4-1) advanced to the National Championship for the second-straight season and the quarterfinals is the furthest they have advanced since a 3rd-place finish in 1998.
Azusa controlled the tempo from the outset and out-shot Mobile 13-0 and held a 7-0 advantage in shots on target. Azusa also held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks taken.
The Lady Cougars scored two goals apiece in each half, led by 2 goals and 1 assist from Natalie Sun.
Sun started the scoring with a tally in the 10th minute off an assist from Heidi Witschi, and capped the first-half scoring in the 20th minute off an assist from Amanda Hardy.
Azusa then waited just five minutes to score in the second half on a goal from Witschi. Molly Lavin finished the scoring in the 68th minute, with Emily Wood and Daniella Perez picking up assists on the play.
