MOBILE, Ala-- The 15th-ranked Lee University Lady Flames used a strong second half to take down the University of Mobile 76-58 in SSAC women's basketball action Friday evening at Pharr Gym.
Mobile (2-6, 1-2) will host Brenau University Saturday at 3 pm.
Alice Honnery had a tremendous all-around game for the Lady Rams, finishing with 13 points, 13 rebounds, 9 blocks and 7 assists to lead the team in each category. Morgan Melancon added 10 points for Mobile.
Lee had four players in double figures, led by 19 points from Hollie German and 17 points from Kally Eldridge.
Mobile held an edge from the free throw line, finishing 24-of-44, compared to a 10-of-17 effort from the Lady Flames, but Lee held a big edge from the 3-point line. Lee finished 10-of-36 from long range, while Mobile hit only two 3-pointers. Each team shot 37% from the field for the game.
The Lady Flames forced 23 Mobile turnovers and held a 51-40 edge on the glass and a 20-7 edge in offensive boards. In the second half, Mobile shot only 28% from the floor, while Lee hit 43%.
The Lady Rams grabbed an 18-12 lead with 12:32 to play in the opening half thanks to a pair of Honnery free throws, but Lee responded with an 11-1 run to take a 23-19 lead over Mobile 2:14 later. Lee held the lead until the half, though Mobile went into the break trailing only 35-33.
Mobile did not score its 10th point of the second half until 9:48 had run off the clock and Lee had swelled its lead to 52-41. From there, the Lady Flames cruised, leading by as many as 22 points.
