HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team upended William Carey University 60-55 in SSAC action Thursday evening.
Mobile (5-11, 3-4) hosts 19th-ranked Belhaven University Saturday at 5 pm.
Daphnee Frieson led the Lady Rams with 13 points and 8 rebounds, Briana Edwards added 12 points and 7 boards, and Shontae Dillon finished with 10 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the free throw line.
TeAnna Carter, Crystal Tucker and Erica Moore each scored 10 points to lead William Carey (7-7, 4-3).
William Carey shot a woeful 28% from the floor, compared to 47% for Mobile, and also shot only 28% (7-of-25) from 3-point range. Mobile out rebounded the Lady Saders 42-37 and knocked down 16-of-24 from the charity stripe.
Both teams struggled offensively in the opening half, and Mobile trailed 20-19 heading into the break.
William Carey scored first in the second half to take a 22-19 lead, but a pair of Lauren Bethly free throws with 18:08 remaining gave the Lady Rams a 24-22 lead. Mobile would never trail. With the score tied 28-28 at the 15:24 mark, William Carey's offense went cold and the Lady Rams went on a 15-4 run over the next 7:28 to take an 11 point lead. Mobile led by as many as 13 points before holding on for the five-point win.
