HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The UMobile men's basketball team defeated SSAC foe William Carey 68-64 in road action Thursday evening.
Mobile (8-8, 4-3) hosts Belhaven Saturday at 7 pm.
Christian Salinas hit 4-of-6 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 15 points, Antonio Hester added 14 points and 11 rebounds, Brock Dockery finished with 13 points and Marcus Polnett added 10 points off the bench for Mobile.
Fernando Garcia and Jaron Edwards led William Carey with 14 points apiece.
William Carey out shot Mobile 43% to 33% from the floor, but Mobile shot 85% (22-of-26) from the charity stripe and hit 10-of-23 from 3-point range, while forcing 20 turnovers.
In the opening half, William Carey jumped out to an 11-2 lead and led by as many as 15 points before taking a 39-31 lead into the break.
The Crusaders kept that domination going in the second half, building a 55-43 lead with 10:18 to play on a pair of free throws. Mobile started their rally with an 11-2 spurt, capped by a dunk from Hester and a 3-ball from Dockery. The Rams finally tied the game at 59-59 with 3:17 remaining on a trio of free throws from Salinas, and then the senior guard struck again, and gave Mobile their first lead at 64-62 with 51 seconds to play when he drained a 3-pointer.
William Carey missed on the ensuing possession, and then Ji Kimbrough and Polnett each knocked down a pair of free throws to ice the game.
