JACKSON, Miss-- Despite Antonio Hester's incredible performance, the University of Mobile men's basketball team fell 54-63 at Southern States Athletic Conference foe Belhaven University Thursday evening.
Hester tallied 30 points on 14-of-15 shooting, added 18 rebounds, and finished with 6 blocks, while the next highest point total was 8 from Brock Dockery.
Arnold Daryl led Belhaven with 23 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the charity stripe.
The key to the game came from the free throw line, where Belhaven finished at 68% (17-of-25), compared to 25% (4-of-16) for the Rams. The Blazers hit 12-of-16 in the second half. Also, the Rams could not get on track from deep, unleashing 25 attempts from 3-point range, and only hitting 4.
The Blazers scored first and built a 10-6 lead at the 15:22 mark before the Rams used an 11-1 run, capped by a Christian Salinas 3-pointer, to grab 1 17-11 edge. The Rams held a 20-14 lead with 6:16 remaining, and then went to the half with a 24-22 edge.
The teams traded leads through the early portion of the final half until the Rams held a 49-48 lead with 5:34 left on a bucket from Cody Scott. From there, the Blazers went on an 11-0 run as Mobile missed three shots and two free throws. Belhaven cruised from there.
