Men's Basketball Holds Off AUM 69-64

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team defeated visiting Auburn University at Montgomery 69-64 in Southern States Athletic Conference action Saturday.

Mobile (12-13, 8-7) will host Tougaloo College Thursday at 7:30 pm.

Ji Kimbrough led the Rams with 17 points and 8 rebounds, Cody Scott added 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Jonathan Tinch finished with 11 points for Mobile.

Marquez Brooks led five Warhawks in double figures with 14 points.

The Rams shot 41% from the floor, compared to 38% for AUM, and hit 17-of-25 from the free throw line compared to 16-of-20 for AUM. Mobile made twice as many trips to the free throw line in the final half as AUM did.

Mobile started out the game with a 6-0 lead and never trailed in the half. AUM was able to tie it up at 10-10 with 12:05 to play, but the Rams answered with a 14-4 run to build their largest lead of the period on a Scott bucket. the Rams went into the half with a 29-25 lead.

The Warhawks did not manage their first lead of the game until 7:24 had run off the clock in the final half, as Brooks sank a 3-pointer to make it 43-42 AUM. Christian Salinas answered right back with a pair of free throws for the Rams to take the lead for good, and a Ji Kimbrough 3-ball gave Mobile an 8-point lead with 8:13 remaining. The Warhawks fought back and cut the deficit to 59-58 with 3:55 to play, but Scott answered with a long two, and the Rams went 5-of-6 from the charity stripe over the game's final 24 seconds.
