THOMASVILLE, GA-- The 18th-ranked University of Mobile softball team had to wait an extra day to start the 2010 season due to the winter weather that moved across the Southeast, but the Lady Rams impressed in their season-opening doubleheader at Thomas University Sunday.
Mobile won the opener 11-0 in 5 innings due to the run-rule and 2-0 in the finale behind Victoria Buie's no-hitter.
The Lady Rams tallied 11 runs on 11 hits in the opener as all starters reached base, led by Satsuma product Dorlicia Martin's 3-for-3 afternoon at the plate. Sophomore Tess Ackerman provided a homer and Desiree Truett finished 1-for-2 with 3 RBI and 2 runs.
Leslie Pickette (1-0) picked up the win with 5 innings of 2-hit shutout ball with 10 strikeouts.
Mobile busted open the game in the 3rd inning, scoring 10 runs, with Truett opening the scoring with a 2-run double.
The finale did not have the offensive fireworks, but instead Mobile pitcher Victoria Buie stole the show. The Dothan, Ala. native twirled a complete-game no hitter, fanning 10 and walking only one.
Truett again provided the game-winning RBI, doubling home Hannah Harrell in the 3rd inning. Ally Scott capped the scoring for Mobile with a solo home run in the 4th.
Mobile (2-0) will travel to the Faulkner University Tournament in Montgomery, Ala. Feb. 19-20.
