MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile softball team opened its 2012 home schedule by sweeping Talladega College by scores of 11-4 and 15-0 in a run-rule victory.
Mobile (4-0) will play Benedictine Saturday at 12 at William Carey.
Kamaron Strickland grabbed the win in the opener, going the distance, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits and fanning 6. Brittany Dunson went 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored from the leadoff spot, while Milagros Lozada went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and Johnna Barnes finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBI.
The Lady Rams were actually down 2-0 after one, but scored five in the 3rd and three in the 4th to put the game away. Dunson and Hannah Beth Baker started the 3rd with a triple and double, then Barnes doubled home two to cap the inning. In the 4th, Dunson and Baker again got on to start the frame, and both scored on Kaci Pribanic's RBI-single.
In the finale, Alli Hall worked 4 hitless innings, walking one and fanning one to grab the win. Jessica Rogers finished 3-for-3 with 3 runs and 3 RBI and Jessica Palmer went 3-for-3 with 3 runs one homer and two doubles. Lozada finished 2-for-3 with a homerun and Johnna Barnes went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI for Mobile.
Mobile started with a 5-run 1st and put it away with six in the 3rd. Rogers doubled home two in the 1st and a pair of Talladega errors further helped the cause.
In the 3rd, Mobile racked up 6 runs on 7 hits. Baker started with a triple and scored on Rogers' RBI-single to begin the frame, then Palmer and Lozada went back-to-back with homers.
