HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The University of Mobile softball team picked up a pair of non-conference victories in Hattiesburg Saturday, taking down Benedictine 14-6 and blanking Ottawa 5-0 in the finale.
Mobile (6-0) will host Concordia Monday at 4 pm for a twinbill.
In the opener, the Lady Rams out-slugged Benedictine to pick up the 14-6 win. Kamaron Strickland got the win for Mobile after giving up 6 runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings of work. Mobile touched up Kayla McDonald for 11 runs (8 earned) on 8 hits in 3.1 innings.
Ally Scott went 2-for-4 with 2 triples and 4 RBI for the Lady Rams, and Hannah Beth Baker, Korie Fontenot and Johnna Barnes each added 2 hits and 2 RBI. Emily Vickrey finished 2-for-2 with 4 runs scored.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the 1st, the Lady Rams answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, and then put the game away with a 4-run 3rd and 5-run 4th.
A pair of errors led to the 1st-inning run, and in the 3rd, three of the runs scored with two outs, with Brittany Dunson's 2-run triple capping the scoring. In the 4th, Scott produced a 3-run triple to highlight the frame.
Brittney Kerr twirled a 3-hit complete-game shutout in the finale to grab the win. She struck out 4 and walked 1.
At the plate, Dunson, Baker and Kaci Pribanic each finished with a pair of hits.
The eventual winning run came in the bottom of the 1st when Milagros Lozada drove in Dunson with a sac fly. While Kerr continued to dominate in the circle, the Mobile bats tacked on four more runs over the 4th, 5th and 6th innings. Jessica Palmer and Pribanic singled home runs in the 5th and Dunson produced a RBI-single in the 6th.
