MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team had several student-athletes honored with the release of the 2011-12 SSAC Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams and year-end awards Wednesday.
Senior post player Alice Honnery was named SSAC Defensive Player of the Year, All-Conference and Musco Lighting Champion of Character. Honnery led the NAIA with 110 blocks and 3.93 blocks per contest, ranked 5th with a .577 field goal percentage and 9th with 10.9 rebounds per game. She also averaged a team-high 15.3 points, 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
Mobile native Daphnee Frieson was named to the All-Division squad, and Courtney Bayliss, Lauren Bethly and Briana Edwards were named to the All-Freshman Team.
In her first year with the team, Frieson averaged 11.6 points and 7.2 rebounds, while ranking 2nd on the team with 25 blocks and shooting .569 from the floor. Bayliss averaged 7.3 points and 3.2 boards per game and shot a team-best .345 from 3-point range, while Edwards averaged 9.1 points and 4.3 boards to go along with 29 steals. Bethly finished her freshman campaign with 17.7 minutes, 4.8 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while dishing out 44 assists and adding 31 steals.
Also, Allison Michael, Kelsie Ruff, Leana Tajkov and Judi Vigneulle were all named to the All-Academic Team.
