Rams Win Non-Conference Tilt 8-5

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan 8-5 in NAIA baseball action Wednesday, in a game that featured 13 runs on 29 hits.

Mobile (11-13, 5-7) will host Loyola University for a Southern States Athletic Conference series this weekend, beginning with a single game Friday at 2 pm and ending with a 1 pm doubleheader Saturday.

Cole Vaughan scattered 6 hits in 5 innings of 1-run ball to pick up the win. The lefty fanned 5 and walked 2. Josh Blaylock needed only 7 pitches to finish the 9th to grab the save for the Rams.

At the dish, Brady King and Ryne Phillips each led Mobile with 3 hits, Blaylock finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, Cameron White finished 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and Justin Beck went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and 2 doubles.

Cory Ford led the Eagles with 3 hits, while Nick Palese and Andrew Murphy each had 2 RBI.

Vaughan struggled in the 1st for Mobile, hitting a pair of batters, walking one and giving up a double, but the lefty was able to strand the bases loaded and give up only one run. Then, in the 2nd and 3rd, Mobile's bats scored 4 and 3 runs, respectively to take control of the game.

The Rams plated 4 on 5 hits with 2 outs in the 2nd thanks in large part to a RBI double from Beck and a 2-run single from Blaylock. In the 3rd, Ryan Waltman started things off with a 1-out base hit, and Beck had the big hit with a 2-run dobule to left.

The Eagles put up a fight in the 8th, scoring four runs on five hits, but Shane Ikner came in and stranded a pair, before Blaylock finished up with the 9th.
