FRANKFORT, Ky.-- University of Mobile women's basketball players Daphnee Frieson, Alice Honnery and Kelsie Ruff were named 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes Monday.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced that 127 Division 1 Women's Basketball student-athletes were honored.
In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
Honnery is a senior from New South Wales, Australia, Frieson is a senior from Mobile and Ruff is a junior from Huntsville, Ala.
The award has been in existence since 1979, and 107 UMobile student-athletes have been honored.
Honnery averaged 15.3 points and 10.9 rebounds, and totaled 110 blocks on the season. Frieson averaged 11.6 points and 7.2 rebounds and added 25 blocks. Ruff played in 21 games, averaging 2.2 points and 1.1 rebounds, while dishing out 32 assists.
