TALLADEGA, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Talladega College Tuesday.
The Rams took the opener 7-4 before falling 5-1 in the finale.
Mobile (15-14, 8-7) visits Shorter University for a three-game set this weekend, beginning Friday at 2 pm.
Corey Fountain got the win in the opener with 2 innings of perfect relief, and Josh Blaylock picked up the save with .2 innings of scoreless relief.
Ryne Phillips went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs and John Soutullo finished 2-for-3 with 1 RBI at the dish for Mobile. Josh Blaylock drove in a pair of runs from the leadoff spot for the Rams and Ryan Waltman went 1-for-2 with 1 RBI.
In game two, Chase Benifield limited Mobile to 1 run on 3 hits in 5.2 innings of mound work for Talladega. He fanned 5 and walked two. Cole Vaughan was tagged with the loss for Mobile after giving up 5 runs on 7 hits in 3 innings of work. Drew Esslinger tossed 3 innings of 2-hit shutout relief for Mobile.
At the plate, Cameron White led the Rams with a 2-for-3 afternoon.
