ROME, Ga-- The Shorter University Hawks took Sunday's rubber match 17-11 over the University of Mobile in the SSAC baseball series.
Mobile (16-16, 9-9) hosts Thomas University for a non-conference twin bill Tuesday at 1 pm.
The Hawks plated 17 runs on 19 hits, while the Rams scored 11 runs on 17 hits.
Josh Blaylock went 5-for-6 for Mobile, Ryne Phillips finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and John Soutullo, Ryan Waltman and Parker Hollinghead each added a pair of hits for the Rams.
The Rams scored first with a single tally in the 1st when Blaylock led off with a bunt single and later scored on Phillips' RBI-single.
The Hawks responded with 5 runs on 3 hits in the 2nd and 8 runs on 9 hits in the 3rd to take control. Two walks and a hit batsman aided the 2nd-inning rally that was highlighted by Cal Hardie's 2-run double. Seven of the first eight hitters recorded hits in the 3rd, with Hardie tripling home a pair and Mike Miranda doubling home two to cap the inning.
Mobile tried to rally late with 3-run 6th and 8th innings, but came up short. Blaylock had a RBI-double in the 6th and Cameron White, Jacob Knowles and Blaylock drove in runs in the 8th.
