COLUMBUS, Ga-- The 24th-ranked University of Mobile softball team held on for a pair of one-run victories Thursday, on day one of the 2012 SSAC Crossover. The Lady Rams beat Southern Wesleyan 4-3 and took down 16th-ranked Lee University 3-2.
Mobile (21-6, 3-3) will face a trio of teams Friday. They will battle Shorter at 11, Emmanuel at 4 and Truett-McConnell at 6.
In the opener, Kamaron Strickland got the win after allowing 3 runs on 6 hits in 4.1 innings of work. Alli Hall came in and threw 2.2 innings of no-hit relief to pick up the save.
Jessica Rogers finished 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored, Milagros Lozada went 2-for-2 with 1 RBI and Emily Vickrey drove in a pair for Mobile.
Southern Wesleyan started the game with a single tally in the top of the 1st, but Mobile answered with 3 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the inning. Brittany Dunson and Jessica Rogers started the inning with singles, Kaci Pribanic tied it on a RBI-groundout and Vickrey capped the frame with a 2-out, 2-run single.
Mobile scored the winning run in the 3rd when Lozada singled home Rogers.
In the finale, Alli Hall got the win with 5.2 innings of 2-run, 4-hit ball. She fanned 6 and walked 6. Brittney Kerr picked up the save with 1.1 innings of perfect relief.
The game was scoreless through five complete before Mobile mounted a 2-out rally in the top of the 6th. Rogers and Pribanic reached to keep the inning going and Lozada cranked a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall for the 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 6th, four Flames reached with two outs to force home a pair of runs before Kerr entered and got the final batter of the inning to fly out to left and strand the bases loaded.
