COLUMBUS, Ga-- The 12th-ranked Shorter University Lady Hawks defeated the 24th-ranked University of Mobile softball team 5-1 Friday at the SSAC Crossover Tournament.
Mobile (21-7, 3-4) will battle 8th-ranked Brenau Saturday at 9 am and Brewton Parker at 2 pm.
Shorter's Maddie Bray scattered 7 hits in the complete-game win, while limiting Mobile to 1 run. Kamaron Strickland took the loss after giving up 5 runs on 6 hits in 3.1 innings of work.
Hannah Beth Baker went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and Emily Vickrey finished 1-for-2 with a walk for Mobile.
Strickland had fanned 5 Hawks through 3 shutout innings before Shorter erupted for 5 runs on 6 hits in the 4th inning. After a single and a fly out, five straight Hawks reached and four runs scored before the second out was recorded.
The Lady Rams finally got on the board in the 7th on Baker's 2-out RBI-double.
