JACKSON, Miss-- The 22nd-ranked University of Mobile softball team picked up a pair of one-run victories at SSAC foe Belhaven University Friday. Mobile took the opener 5-4 and won the finale 7-6.
Mobile (23-9, 5-6) will host rival Spring Hill April 11 at 1 pm for a SSAC twin bill.
In the opener, the Lady Rams rallied for three runs in the 6th inning to pick up the 5-4 win.
After being held to two hits in the previous four innings, Mobile plated three on three hits in the 6th. Singles by Jessica Palmer and Brittany Dunson, and a walk to Hannah Beth Baker loaded the bases with one out. Jessica Rogers followed with a 2-run single up the middle and Milagros Lozada brought home the game-winner with a sac fly.
The Lady Rams had gone ahead with a pair of runs in the top of the 1st, thanks to RBIs from Lozada and Ally Scott, but Belhaven tied it with single tallies in the 2nd and 3rd and went ahead with a 2-run 5th.
Alli Hall picked up the win after limiting Belhaven to 3 earned runs on 5 hits in 7 innings of work. She fanned 6 and walked 3. Jessica Paris took the loss after giving up 3 earned runs on 7 hits in 5.2 innings of work.
Dunson finished 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored, while Lozada and Rogers each drove in a pair for Mobile.
UMobile scored multiple runs in the 1st, 3rd and 5th innings to take the finale 7-6.
With the score tied 2-2 in the top of the 3rd, Lozada led off with a single and Korie Fontenot followed with a 2-run homer to right-center.
Then, after a quick out in the 5th, four straight hitters reached, with Hannah Beth Baker drawing a walk to force home one run. With two outs, Lozada singled home a pair to account for the winning run.
Brittney Kerr worked 5 innings of 5-run ball to get the win, while Alli Hall finished out the game with 2 innings of 1-run relief.
Fontenot finished 2-for-4 with 4 RBI and a homer, Dunson went 2-for-4, Lozada finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Johnna Barnes and Jessica Rogers each added a pair of hits to the UMobile attack.
