MOBILE, Ala-- The 23rd-ranked University of Mobile softball team split with rival Spring Hill College Wednesday. Spring Hill took the opener 5-4 in 8 innings, while Mobile took the finale 7-2.
Mobile (24-10, 6-7) hosts Belhaven University Friday at 5 pm for a SSAC twin bill.
Kamaron Strickland got the win in the finale for Mobile, limiting the Badgers to two runs on four hits in a complete-game effort. At the plate, Ally Scott finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, Jessica Rogers went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and Johnna Barnes finished 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored.
The Badgers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 4th inning, but Mobile got one back in the 4th on a RBI-double from Scott and then plated five on three hits and two errors in the 5th. After a walk, single and error loaded the bags, two hit batsmen forced home the first two runs of the inning. Scott capped the rally with a 2-out 2-run single.
Linsey Dickerson got the win in game one for the Badgers, holding Mobile to four runs on eight hits in 8 innings of work. Alli Hall took the loss after giving up five runs on 12 hits in 7 innings.
Hannah Beth Baker went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, 2 triples and a homer for Mobile. The Badgers pounded out 14 hits.
The game was all about answers. Shea Blanchard put Spring Hill up 2-0 in the 4th with a 2-run homer, but Mobile answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame thanks to RBI singles from Jessica Rogers and Scott.
Mobile went ahead 3-2 with back-to-back triples from Brittany Dunson and Baker in the 5th, but the Badgers came right back with two in the 6th on RBI from Mariha Partman and Jenny Laird.
Down to their final strike in the 7th, Baker smoked a solo homer to extend the game, but Partman won it for the Badgers in the 8th with a solo bomb of her own.
