MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team defeated rival Spring Hill College 5-2 in a non-conference game Tuesday.
The game was called with two outs in the bottom of the 8th due to rain.
The Rams (23-22, 13-14) will close out the regular season by hosting conference foe Southern Wesleyan for a three-game series this weekend. The teams will play one Friday at 2 pm and play a doubleheader Saturday at 1. The Rams are currently a half game ahead of William Carey for the 8th and final playoff spot in the SSAC.
Corey Fountain held the Spring Hill bats in check to get the win for Mobile. The lefty limited the Badgers to two runs on six hits in seven innings of work. He fanned six and walked one. Alex Summers took the loss after giving up two runs on two hits in 1.1 innings of relief work.
Parker Hollinghead finished 2-for-3 with two RBI for Mobile and Cameron White went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
The Rams got on the board first in the 3rd inning when Hollinghead tripled home White, and later scored himself on Josh Blaylock's sac fly.
The score stayed that way until the top of the 6th, when the Badgers scored a pair on three hits. John Hollingsworth singled home two.
UMobile answered back with the game-winner in the 7th. White led off with a double and moved to 3rd on Justin Beck's sac bunt. From there, he scored on Hollinghead's sharp grounder to second. Mobile went on to score two more in the 8th before the game was called. A passed ball scored Walt Bedsole and Ryne Phillips drove in Ryan Parazine with a sac fly.
