Matchups Released For 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship

GULF SHORES, Ala-- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the pool play schedule for the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship, held May 17-23 at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

The University of Mobile is in Pool B with Cal State San Marcos, Southern Nazarene and Texas Wesleyan. There are eight pools of four teams apiece, who will play three games from May 17-19. The winner of each pool will advance to a double-elimination bracket May 21-23. The Lady Rams will play Southern Nazarene May 17 at 9:30 am, Cal State San Marcos May 18 at 10 am and Texas Wesleyan May 19 at 12:30 pm.

Cal State San Marcos (50-4) is making its 3rd appearance at nationals and is 7-3 all-time at the tournament. The Cougars enter play having won six-straight and 19-of-20. As a team, they rank 2nd in the NAIA in ERA (1.01) and 5th in slugging percentage (.578). Alyssa Dronenburg is batting .462 with 19 homers 61 RBI and 14 steals, while Theresa Houle has 18 home runs and 12 doubles. Cortney Allen is 20-4 in the circle with a .98 ERA.

Southern Nazarene (40-17) is a first-timer at the tournament. The Crimson Storm has lost two-straight and is 10-3 in the last 13 games. The team ranks 8th in the NAIA with 549 total hits and 12th in batting average at .347. Jill Clemence is hitting .429 with 52 runs scored, while Amy Madden has 14 home runs, 12 doubles and 71 RBI. Kaci Crawford leads the pitching staff with an 18-8 record and 170 strikeouts in 155.1 innings.

Texas Wesleyan (25-17) is making its 2nd trip and first since 1984, where they went 2-2. The Lady Rams have turned their season around, going 17-1 over the last 18 games after starting the season 8-16. Courtney Orebaugh leads with a .426 batting average, while Lindsay Cline has a team-high 11 doubles and 6 home runs. Alexis Beltran is 18-4 in the circle with 105 strikeouts in 143.2 innings of work.

The University of Mobile qualified for the 17th time and boasts a 49-32 all-time record in national championship competition. After a 7-1 stretch, the Lady Rams are 2-7 over the last nine games. Brittany Dunson leads the team with a .327 and has 11 extra-base hits, while Milagros Lozada is hitting .311 with 5 home runs, 25 RBI and a .405 on base percentage. Alli Hall is 12-6 with a 1.68 ERA in the circle.
