MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team inked a pair of high school athletes from Florida. The Rams signed 6-5 power forward Cole Fountain of Pine Forest High School and 6-1 point guard TJ Simon of Holy Trinity Academy.
Fountain was a three-sport athlete in Pensacola, Fla., who averaged 12 points and 9 boards per contest, while leading Pine Forest to a 25-6 record and back-to-back District Championships.
"Cole is a very good athlete," UMobile Head Coach Joe Niland said. "He's a competitor who loves to win. He's relentless on the backboards, very tough on the defensive end of the floor, and as he gains strength, he should be a great asset to our program."
On the court, Fountain was named 2nd-Team All-Pensacola and was the leading scorer in the Pensacola Sports Association All Star Game. In track, he high jumped 6-8.
Simon was also a three-sport athlete in Melbourne, Fla., competing in football, basketball and track. He averaged 12 points, 6 assists and 3 steals per game while leading Holy Trinity to a 21-6 record and a 2011 District Championship.
"TJ is a three-sport athlete that excelled in football, basketball and track," Niland said. "TJ played in a system at Holy Trinity that is similar to ours here at UMobile. As he focuses on one sport in college, we expect him to grow into a very good player for us."
Aside from his excellence in basketball, Simon was a two-time State Champion in track and 2nd-Team All Space Coast as a wide receiver in football.
