MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team opened up the 2012 season by beating Southeastern 3-1 (25-27, 25-19, 25-23, 25-20) and Milligan 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-23).
The Lady Rams (2-0) will host Tougaloo Saturday at 2:30 pm and Southern University at New Orleans Saturday at 6 pm.
Against Southeastern, the Lady Rams held the Fire to a .079 attack percentage and finished with a 9-3 edge in service aces.
Freshman Bailey Nations led the way with 16 kills, while Kiara Gay added 14 kills and 6 service aces. Reagin Boggs paced the team with 37 assists and 15 digs.
After allowing the Fire to rally for an opening-set win, the Lady Rams erased an early 8-5 deficit in the second set thanks to an 8-0 run with Nations at the service line.
Mobile took control of the third set with an 8-0 run by Gay after dropping the first point. Gay tallied five aces in the run.
In the final game of the night, the Lady Rams out hit the Lady Buffaloes .191 to .071 and added 10 more service aces.
Gay led with 13 kills and added 6 digs, while Nations finished with 10 kills and a .261 attack percentage. Sara Van Wert chipped in 6 kills and 4 blocks for Mobile.
In the opening set, the Lady Rams went on a 12-0 run to break open a 4-4 tie. The clinching set actually saw Milligan hold an 18-17 lead, but Mobile scored four of the next five points a couple of Milligan service errors. Up 24-23, Van Wert finished it off with a kill.
