Lady Rams Roll To Pair Of Straight-Set Wins

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team swept a pair of matches Saturday, beating Tougaloo College 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-13) and downing SUNO 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-20).

Mobile (4-0) will next play Friday at the Milligan College Tournament.

In the opening match, the Lady Rams out hit Tougaloo .233 to .039 and finished with a 14-5 edge in service aces.

Kiara Gay led Mobile with 12 kills, while hitting .360 and Lindsay Taylor added 19 digs and 3 aces. Sara Van Wert added 6 kills and 4 blocks.

In the opening set, the Lady Rams broke open a 6-6 tie with a 9-2 run thanks to three kills from Gay.

The second set saw Mobile hold a slim 12-11 lead before going on an 8-2 run with four different players coming up with kills in the set. Mobile finished off the set by taking five-straight points with Bailey Nations at the service line.

Up 12-10 in the final set, the Lady Rams went on a 6-0 run before closing out with a 5-0 run. Taylor sparked the 6-0 run with three aces, while Gay served up back-to-back aces to close out the match.

Against SUNO, UMobile hit .255 as a team, while holding SUNO to a .066 attack percentage.

Sara Van Wert led Mobile with 12 kills and a .529 hitting percentage, while Kiara Gay added a double-double of 12 kills and 13 digs. Reagin Boggs led with 35 assists, Bailey Nations produced 10 kills and Courtney Fenwick added 10 digs.

The first set was close throughout, with SUNO building a 12-10 lead, before Mobile answered with a 7-3 spurt to retake the lead for good.

UMobile started the second set by building a 6-2 lead before putting the set away with a 7-0 run to turn an 8-6 lead into a 15-6 advantage.

The Lady Rams trailed 18-14 in the final set before going on a 7-0 run with Boggs at the service line. Van Wert and Gay each tallied a pair of kills in the run.
