UM Women Earn GCAC Honors

 

MOBILE, Ala-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference announced its yearly All-Conference Awards Saturday, and the Lady Rams were well-represented.
 
Sophomore Syretta Baldwin was honored as the league's MVP, one year after winning freshman of the year honors. Baldwin finished the regular season with 347 kills on a .381 hitting percentage. She added 165 digs and 54 blocks for the Lady Rams.
 
Whitney Knight won freshman of the year honors and just lost out to her teammate for MVP honors with a stellar season. The Birmingham native led the team in kills and digs with 392 and 339 respectively. She also finished second on the team with 55 aces.
 
The awards continued to roll in, as Nicole Stokes was named Setter of the Year after pacing the Lady Rams with 704 assists, 201 digs, and 42 aces.
 
The aforementioned 3 also made All-GCAC 1st team, where they were joined by teammates Paula Stilkey and Tasha Buchanan. Stilkey has posted solid all-around numbers all year and finished the regular season with 261 kills, 273 digs, and at team-high 100 blocks. Buchanan, a junior setter, finished with 522 assists, 234 digs, and 178 kills for Mobile.
 

The Lady Rams will travel to Lee University next weekend to continue play in the Region XIII Tournament.
