No. 5 Lady Rams Beat No. 15 Northwood 4-2

FAIRHOPE, Ala-- Forced to play at Founder's Park in Fairhope, Ala., due to an unplayable field at UMobile, the 5th-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in each half to take down 15th-ranked Northwood University 4-2.

Mobile (3-0) hosts Reinhardt Monday, Sept. 1 at 1 pm.

The Lady Rams looked like they were going to run away with the game with goals in the 12th and 14th minutes in the opening period.

The first came when Christy Lachappelle crossed the ball into the 18-yard box, and Jesslyn Fagundes knocked it home for the 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, it was Lachappelle doing the scoring, taking a feed from Monique Martinez and beating the keeper.

Fagundes scored her second goal of the game in the 56th minute, with Lachappelle picking up another assist, and Mobile held a 3-0 lead.

In the 73rd and 77th minutes, a pair of UMobile fouls set Northwood up with a pair of free kicks, and Helen Lynskey connected on both from about 25 yards out to cut the deficit to 3-2.

With five minutes left, the Lady Rams put it away when a nice long ball from Kelsie Ruff put Katie Compton behind the Northwood defense, and Compton finished to make it 4-2.

Lachappelle leads the team with 4 goals and 2 assists.
