UM Baseball Takes Two From Bulldogs

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team swept Gulf Coast Athletic Conference foe Tougaloo College Friday, winning 12-6 in 7 innings and 12-5 in 9 innings.

Chris Peacock got the win in the opener, after allowing 3 earned runs on 14 hits in 7 innings of work. The Rams' offense backed him up with 12 runs on 12 hits.

Derek Bourgeois finished 4-5 with 3 RBI, Cody Barber went 3-4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI, and Cody Sanderson and Brad Sheffield each added 2 RBI for Mobile.

The first two innings were scoreless, then Mobile went ahead with 4 in the 3rd and then added four runs over the next two innings, before finishing the game with 4 in the 7th.

In the 3rd, Sheffield doubled-home one, a hit-batsman and walk forced home another, and then Sanderson ripped a 2-run double. Tougaloo scored three unearned tallies in the bottom half of the 3rd, but the Rams answered those over the next two frames.

Bourgeois doubled home a pair in the 4th and added a RBI single in the 5th for the Rams. Mobile put the game away with four runs on only two hits in the 7th, which was started by another Bourgeois double. Travis Williamson and Nick Laico were hit by pitch with the bases juiced to force home a run apiece, and then Barber finished the scoring with a 2-run single.

Mobile won the finale 12-5, with Jarrin Brister going 5 innings of 4-run ball and John Ladnier picking up the save with 4 innings of 2-hit, shutout relief.

Mobile against tallied double-digit hits with 11, led by Brad Sheffield's 3-3 afternoon. He also scored four times. Cody Sanderson went 1-2 with 5 RBI and a 3-run home run, while Travis Williamson finished 2-4 with 3 RBI.

Unlike game one, Mobile wasted little time in scoring, playing five runs in the 1st inning as nine batters came to the plate. Two errors and three walks aided the cause. Williamson provided the big blow with a 3-run double.

The Bulldogs plated five runs between the 3rd and 5th innings, but the Rams added to their lead with three in the bottom of the 4th and two in the 5th.

Sanderson cranked his 3-run homer in the 4th, while Sheffield and Hunter Norris provided run-scoring hits in the 5th.

Mobile (13-21, 6-14) hosts the Bulldogs for another doubleheader Saturday at 1 pm.
