NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile volleyball team defeated Xavier University 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-18) in non-conference action Tuesday evening.

Mobile (12-4) returns to action Saturday at 1 pm when they host SSAC rival Belhaven University.

Kiara Gay led the Lady Rams with 14 kills and added 10 digs for the double-double, while Sara Van Wert had 12 kills and hit .318. Cayce May led with 17 digs and Reagin Boggs set up 37 assists.

Mobile out hit Xavier .136 to .067 and had twice as many service errors, 12-6.

The opening set saw the Gold Nuggets hold Mobile to a -.022 hitting percentage and take a 1-0 lead with the 25-21 win, but the Lady Rams bounced back with wins in the next three.

Mobile surged ahead to a 24-15 lead int he second set, but Xavier went on a 9-0 run to tie it up at 24-24, before Gay and Van Wert finished the set with kills to win it.

Tied up at 10-10 in the third set, Mobile went on a 9-1 run to take command. Seven Xavier errors aided the run.

The final set was back-and-forth for the first half, with Xavier building a 15-13 lead before Mobile went on a 7-1 run to build momentum. A pair of Rachel Barber aces sparked the run.
