Lady Rams Sweep Rival Lady Badgers

MOBILE, Ala-- The 25th-ranked University of Mobile softball team pulled out a pair of late-inning wins versus Spring Hill College in GCAC action at Mobile Friday.

The Lady Rams won the opener 2-1 in 8 innings and won the finale 2-0.

The opener saw Mobile's Victoria Buie and Spring Hill's Samantha Brooks do battle. Brooks was the tough-luck loser after allowing two unearned tallies on nine hits in 7 innings. Buie got a no-decision after giving up one unearned score on two hits in 7 innings. She fanned 8 and walked 1. Leslie Pickette grabbed the win with a perfect inning of relief.

Using the international tie breaker, both teams started the 8th inning with a runner on 2nd. The Lady Badgers came up empty in the top half of the 8th, but Ally Scott came through for Mobile with a RBI-double to win the game.

Scott finished 2-4 with 1 RBI, while Desiree Truett was also 2-4.

Spring Hill struck first in the 5th when they turned a pair of Mobile errors into an unearned tally. Nicole Walker tied it up for the Lady Rams with a 2-out, RBI single to center.

The finale was scoreless through 5.5 innings before Jessica Swanson produced a RBI-single to center for the Lady Rams in the bottom of the 6th.

Kamaron Strickland picked up the win with 7 innings of 7-hit shutout ball. She struck out 7 and walked 1. Brittany Abate took the loss after giving up one earned run on 7 hits in 6 innings of action. She fanned 6 and walked 1.

Truett was 2-3 with one run scored for Mobile, while Swanson was 1-3 with 1 RBI. Mallory Sullivan was 2-3 for Spring Hill.

Truett and Erica Bracey came through with back-to-back one out singles in the 6th, and then Swanson provided the single to center, that was misplayed by the Lady Badgers to allow Bracey to score from 1st.
Mobile (23-10, 6-0) hosts Lindenwood for a 4 pm doubleheader Sunday. Spring Hill (12-17, 2-4) hosts Lindenwood for a 2 pm doubleheader Saturday.
