GAINESVILLE, Ga-- The 6th-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team used Christy Lachappelle's golden goal to take down SSAC opponent Brenau University 2-1 in overtime Friday.
Mobile (5-2-1, 1-0) will visit 2nd-ranked Lee University (3-1) Saturday at 4 pm CST.
Jenny Knibbs put the Golden Tigers up 1-0 with an unassisted goal in the 38th minute, and things stayed that way until the 70th minute, when Melissa Maddox sent a corner into the box, and Olivia Maddox was waiting to flick the ball past the goalkeeper to knot it up at 1-1.
With neither team able to break through in the final 20 minutes of regulation, they played an extra period. With 2:05 left on the clock in OT, Saskia Adriance gave the ball to Lachappelle a couple yards outside the 18-yard box, and Lachappelle bent the ball just-inside the far post, past Brenau's outstretched goalkeeper for the win.
Rebecca Wynne got the win in goal for Mobile after making five saves, while Tori Brown made 10 saves for Brenau.
The Lady Rams out shot Brenau 16-12, and Brenau held a slim 7-6 edge in corners.
