MOBILE, Ala-- The 25th-ranked University of Mobile softball team run-ruled Lindenwood University 10-2 in six innings in the opener Sunday, and then rallied for a 4-3 walk-off win in the finale.
Mobile (25-10, 6-0) visits 9th-ranked Belhaven University Tuesday, March 30 for a 3 pm Gulf Coast Athletic Conference twin bill.
The finale was a back-and-forth game, with Erica Bracey's walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the 7th the decisive blow. Christie Soulis picked up the win for Mobile with 1 perfect inning of relief.
Hannah Harrell, Nicole Walker and Dorlicia Martin all finished 2-3 at the plate to pace the Lady Ram offense.
Mobile grabbed a 1-0 lead on Walker's RBI-double in the bottom of the 2nd inning, but the Lady Rams left five runners on through those first two frames. Lindenwood then took the lead in the 3rd on RBI-hits from Danielle Merli and Jessica Long.
The Lady Rams answered back and tied the game 2-2 on Kirstyn Joiner's RBI-groundout in the 5th. The teams then traded runs on the 6th to make it 3-3, as a pair of Mobile miscues handed Lindenwood the lead in the top half, but Jessica Swanson doubled in the 6th and later scored on a wild pitch.
After Soulis breezed through the top of the 7th, Harrell led off the bottom of the 7th with a double, advanced to 3rd on a ground out, and then scored with 2 outs as Bracey bounced a single over the shortstop into left field.
Sunday's opener was much easier for the Lady Rams as Leslie Pickette grabbed the win by allowing 2 runs over 6 innings of 6-hit ball. She struck out 7 and walked 1. Offensively, Mobile pounded out 15 hits and took advantage of a couple of costly Lady Lion errors in the 1st.
Ally Scott finished 3-4 with 3 RBI, Kirstyn Joiner finished 3-3 with 3 runs scored and Desiree Truett finished 3-4. Holli McLeod finished 2-4 from the leadoff spot.
Lindenwood struck first on Merli's RBI-double in the top of the 1st, but the Lady Rams put up a six-spot in the bottom of the 1st thanks to a couple of Lady Lion errors.
A walk and error put runners on with one out, and then Joiner tied the game with a RBI-single to right-center. Erica Bracey singled to make it 2-1 and Jessica Swanson drew a walk to load the bags, and then the wheels came off for Lindenwood. Scott ripped a RBI-single to left, and the left fielder misplayed the ball, allowing three more runs to score on the play.
Mobile then finished off the game with a pair of runs in each of the 5th and 6th innings.
