
MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team fell 2-3 (13-25, 25-19, 14-25, 25-22, 13-15) to visiting Spring Hill College in Southern States Athletic Conference action Tuesday evening.
Mobile (14-7, 3-4) hosts Truett-McConnell Friday at 7:30 pm. Spring Hill remains unbeaten in SSAC play.
Kiara Gay led UMobile with 17 kills, Sara Van Wert added 15 kills and hit .379, and Bailey Nations chipped in with 13 kills. Reagin Boggs led with 51 assists and 20 digs, while Cayce May added 14 digs and Courtney Fenwick finished with 11.
Megan Haber led Spring Hill with 14 kills and a .538 attack percentage.
The Badgers out hit Mobile .260 to .176 and finished with an 11-3 edge in total team blocks.
In the opening set, it was tied up at 4-4, but the Badgers went on a 7-1 run to take control of the set.
Up 7-5 in the 2nd set, the Lady Rams went on a 9-3 run to grab a 16-8 lead, with Nations producing three kills in the run. From there, the set was never in doubt.
The third set was all Spring Hill again, as the Badgers used an early 10-2 run to build a 15-5 lead, and they never looked back.
After the Badgers used a 6-0 run early in the 4th set to take an 11-10 lead, the teams traded points the rest of the way. Neither team led by more than two the rest of the way, until Mobile used a Nations' kill and Spring Hill attack error to grab a 23-20 lead. After the Badgers pulled within one, Mobile took the final two points, with Nations and Kolassiba picking up kills.
The 5th set saw Mobile erase an 11-9 deficit with a 4-1 run, thanks to a pair of Van Wert kills, but the Badgers answered by taking the final three points of the match, with the last two coming on Sha Sha Buchanan kills.
