MOBILE, Ala-- The 23rd-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team beat the 3rd-ranked Auburn-Montgomery Warhawks Wednesday, using four 2nd-half goals to win 6-2 in Southern States Athletic Conference action.
Mobile (7-3-1, 3-2) will host Faulkner University Saturday at 7:30 pm.
Despite the dominance on the scoreboard, the shots were even in the game at 17 apiece and Mobile held a slim 10-8 edge in shots on target.
The Rams struck first and built a 2-0 lead in the opening 45 periods of play. First goal came in the 19th minute when Naissim Ayadi beat the charging goalkeeper to the ball and flicked it high into the back of the net, with Stephen Okai picking up the assist. In the 35th minute, the duo reversed roles, with Ayadi assisting Okai for the second goal on a nicely executed give-and-go.
Within the first 13 minutes of the final period, the Warhawks struck for a pair of goals to tie it up, with Vitor Silva scoring on a one-time in the 52nd minute and Elvar Sigurdsson knocking home a loose ball in the 58th minute to knot it at 2-2.
The tie lasted only eight minutes, with Okai scoring the eventual game winner when he bent home a free kick in the 66th minute to start the onslaught.
From there, the Rams tacked on three tallies in the final seven minutes, starting with Alvaro Pichardo slipping a shot past the goalkeeper off an assist from Ayadi in the 83rd minute. Two minutes later, Ayadi tallied his second goal of the game, when he received a long ball from Gunnar Steindorsson and again went high over the keeper to score. The final tally came in the 88th minute, with Daniel Spell sending a long pass across the field to Gaetan Massiah, who then sent a rocket inside the far post for the 6-2 final.
Xavier Audergon finished the game with six saves for the Rams.
