MOBILE, Ala-- The 9th-ranked University men's soccer team shut out visiting William Carey University 2-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening.
Mobile (12-3-1, 8-2) visits Spring Hill Saturday at 3:30 pm to close out the regular season. The Rams currently sit atop the SSAC standings with 24 points, while Belhaven, Southern Wesleyan and Auburn-Montgomery all have 22.
It was a physical game with 45 combined fouls, and the Rams held a slim 1411 lead in shots, but two first-half goals were enough as Xavier Audergon made three saves in a shutout effort.
The first tally of the game came in the 26th minute when Stephen Okai banged home a free kick from about 22 yards out. The senior curved a low ball around the wall and into the back of the net.
Then, in the 35th minute, Naissim Ayadi knocked home a corner kick from teammate Gaetan Massiah to cap the scoring.
William Carey actually out shot Mobile 9-7 in the final 45 minutes, but all three of Audergon's saves came in that period to keep the Crusaders off the board.
