MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team opened the 2012-13 season with an 89-81 home win over Fisk University Saturday.
Mobile (1-0) hosts Pensacola Christian College Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 pm.
Chris Richardson led the team with 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting, Dominick Brumfield added 19 points and 14 rebounds off the bench, and both Kwame Beard and Marcus Polnett finished with 10 points for Mobile.
Fisk was led by 19 points from Jacob Page and a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double from Brandyn Mungo.
The Rams out shot the Bulldogs 54% to 40% from the floor, while Fisk held a slim 39% to 33% edge from 3-point range.
Mobile led for the majority of the first half until the Bulldogs used a 17-4 run to turn a 32-29 Mobile lead into a 46-36 Fisk lead with 1:45 to play in the opening period. Fisk took a seven-point lead into the break.
Mobile trailed 54-62 with 14:24 remianing in the game, before going on a 12-3 run to take the lead for good when Dominick Brumfield scored at the 11:22 mark. Brumfield had five points in the run. Holding a slim 80-78 lead with 2:34 remaining, the Rams pulled away with a 9-1 run.
