MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The Southern States Athletic Conference released the 2012 men's soccer year-end awards Wednesday evening, and the University of Mobile was well-represented.
Stephen Okai was named the SSAC Player of the Year, Chris Dillon was named the Defensive Player of the Year and Gaetan Massiah was named Freshman of the Year. All three were named 1st-Team All-Conference and Dillon was also the team's Musco Lighting Champion of Character recipient.
Xavier Audergon, Naissim Ayadi and Alvaro Pichardo earned 2nd-Team All-Conference honors.
Okai, a senior midfielder, boasts 9 goals and 8 assists on the season, with highs of 3 assists (v. Florida Memorial) and 2 goals (v. Truett-McConnell and AUM). Dillon has helped anchor a defense that has recorded six shutouts, and he has also found time to record 2 goals and 1 assist. Massiah has tallied 12 goals and 11 assists for 35 points, scoring 4 goals against Florida Memorial and 3 goals against Belhaven.
Audergon, a sophomore goalkeeper, is 11-1-1 on the season with 4 shutouts and 56 saves. He recorded seven saves against MidAmerica Nazarene and six versus Thomas and AUM. Ayadi has scored 11 goals and added 5 assists for 27 points, recording 2 goals and 2 assists in the team's 6-2 thumping of AUM. Pichardo has 12 goals and 3 assists on the year for 27 points. He scored multiple goals versus Florida Memorial, Northwood and Faulkner.
No. 6 Mobile faces No. 13 Southern Poly Thursday at 3 pm in the SSAC Semifinals in Montgomery, Ala.
