MCKENZIE, Tenn.-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team got out-rebounded 53-22 and fell 71-83 at 22nd-ranked Bethel University Saturday evening in non-conference action.
Mobile (2-1) will visit Southeastern Louisiana University Tuesday at 7 pm.
Bethel finished with a 17-4 edge in offensive boards and a 36-18 edge in defensive rebounds. The Wildcats' Jackliann Street (27 points and 12 rebounds) and Perica Glenn (12 points and 14 rebounds) combined for more boards than UMobile had as a unit.
The Wildcats also outperformed Mobile from the charity stripe, hitting 85% (23-of-27) versus 71% (17-of-24) for Mobile.
Briana Edwards led Mobile with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting, Molly Speed added 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from 3-point range, Shontae Dillon finished with 13 points and Deonica McCormick added 12 points on 5-of-20 shooting.
Speed drained two 3-pointers within the first 1:09, and McCormick chipped in four points as Mobile built an early 12-8 lead. But, over the next 2:45, the Wildcats went on a 13-3 run. Bethel out-rebounded Mobile 8-1 in the stretch. Mobile went into the half trailing 44-41.
The Lady Rams would never lead in the final period, but they did pull within 53-52, before the Wildcats answered with a 13-5 run, capped by five-straight points from Lorna Hudson.
