THIBODAUX, La-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team fell 53-73 in an exhibition contest at NCAA-I Nicholls State University Tuesday evening.
Mobile (2-0) hosts Brewton-Parker Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 pm in a Southern States Athletic Conference match.
Kwame Beard paced the Rams with 18 points thanks to 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line and Julien Sargent added 12 points and 7 boards. T.J. Simon dished out five assists.
The Colonels out shot Mobile 56% (29-52) to 35% (18-52) from the floor and 77% (10-13) to 68% (13-19) from the free throw line. Nicolls also held a 35 to 29 edge on the boards and forced 21 Ram turnovers.
Nicholls was led by 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from Fred Hunter.
The Colonels started the game on an 8-0 run in the first 2:53 and Mobile was never able to grab a lead. The Rams did go on a 5-0 run with 9:45 remaining in the opening half to tie the game at 26-26 when Beard connected on a pair of free throws, but Nicholls answered with a 9-2 run, started and capped by Hunter layups.
In the final half, an offensive board and free throw from Sargent pulled Mobile within 48-43 at the 13:39 mark, but Nicholls went on a 9-0 run to grab a 14-point lead. The largest lead of the game was the final 20-point margin.
