Rams Advance To Montgomery On PK's

MOBILE, Ala-- The 7th-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team tied Texas Wesleyan 0-0 (2OT) in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round, but Mobile advances to the final site of the NAIA National Championship in Montgomery, Ala., Nov. 26 - Dec. 1 on penalty kicks (7-6).

Mobile (14-4-2) will battle No. 10 Columbia Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 1:30 pm.

In the shootout, both teams went 4-for-5 on their opening set of kicks to extend the shootout. Texas Wesleyan was threatening to win on the first five, but Xavier Audergon stoned Ross DeWet's shot, and then Mobile's Gaetan Massiah and Texas Wesleyan's Dejan Milosevic extended the game further with makes.

From there, each team made their first two shots, then the teams exchanged misses to set up the crowning moment. Justin Dillenschneider checked in for the Rams, and banged his shot home, and then Audergon again rose to the occasion and denied Jose Albores for the clincher.

Both squads had plenty of chances to win the game in regulation or one of the two overtime periods, as Mobile finished with 21 shots, including seven on goal and Texas Wesleyan put six of 13 shots on frame.

Mobile had a couple of golden chances in the second half, as Dejan Milosevic stopped back-to-back point-blank tries from Stephen Okai and Gunnar Steindorsson in the 69th minute, and then Naissim Ayadi missed a penalty kick wide in the 81st minute. Audergon stopped a rocket from Ivan Kovacevic in the first overtime.

Milosevic finished with seven saves for Texas Wesleyan, while Audergon made six saves for Mobile.
