MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's soccer team defeated Columbia 2-1 in the Round of 16 at the 2012 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Tuesday afternoon.
Mobile (15-4-2) advances to face Concordia Wednesday at 1:30 pm in the Round of 8.
Both teams battled to a scoreless tie after the opening 45 minutes, but the Rams were able to put home a pair of goals in the final period to take the victory.
The first goal came in the 68th minute, when Sam Blackburn took a feed from Gaetan Massiah at the top of the 18 yard box and knocked it in the top right corner.
Just a minute later, Pierre Mangold provided the game-winner when he scored on a half volley from 12 yards out.
Columbia's Marko Paunovic scored in the 80th minute, but the Cougars could not complete the comeback.
Mobile out shot Columbia 12 to 10, and Xavier Audergon finished with five saves in goal for the Rams.
