MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The 11th-seeded University of Mobile men's soccer team advanced to its second Semifinals in three years with a 3-2 win over Concordia (Calif.) in the Quarterfinals of the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship.
Mobile (16-4-2) will face the winner of Auburn-Montgomery and MidAmerica Nazarene Friday at 2:30 pm.
Concordia started the scoring just three minutes into the game when Christian Ramirez scored on a pass from Edgar Orozco.
But, the Rams would tack on three goals before the end of the opening period and go on to hold on for the victory in the final half.
Sam Blackburn knotted it up at 1-1 in the 12th minute when he dribbled around the goalkeeper and put the ball in the back corner. Gaetan Massiah then put Mobile ahead 2-1 in the 32nd minute when he received a through ball from Naissim Ayadi and punched it inside the right post. Stephen Okai also assisted on the goal.
The eventual game-winner came in the 40th minute when Ayadi knocked home a cross from Gunnar Steindorsson.
Concordia added a goal in the 81st minute, but could not finish the comeback attempt.
Xavier Audergon made five saves for the Rams, who won despite being out shot 19-15.
