ORANGE BEACH, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's soccer team had five student-athletes named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes, as announced by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Friday.
The NAIA had 492 women's soccer student-athletes honored. In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
For Mobile, Elisabeth Davis, Christy Lachappelle, Olivia Maddox, Melissa Maddox and Kelsie Ruff were honored. Davis, Lachappelle, Ruff and Olivia are two-time winners of the award.
The Lady Rams finished the season with a 15-4-2 record and advanced to the Round of 16 for the third-straight season.
Davis, a senior midfielder/defender from Fairhope, Ala., saw action in 20 games this season, making eight starts. Ruff, a senior defender from Huntsville, Ala., started all 21 games for Mobile scoring one goal and tallying three assists. Melissa, a junior from Auburn, Ala., also started all 21 games in the defensive backfield, finishing with two assists. Each was part of a defense that pitched 10 shutouts.
Olivia, a senior midfielder from Auburn, Ala., started all 21 games in the midfield, finishing with a pair of goals, and Lachappelle, a senior forward from San Antonio, Texas, started 19 of 20 games, finishing with 45 points, 18 goals and 9 assists.
